A Look Back at 2020: Our milestones and achievements

What a year it’s been. But despite the difficulties that 2020 has come with, the Nexus team has found a way to triumph, having our best year yet.

In this blog we’d like to take a look back at 2020 and give ourselves a *modest” little pat on the back, as well as a big thank you to our loyal community, who has supported us and made all of these accomplishments possible.

From closing a seed funding round to launching two new offerings in under 3 months, this year has been a productive and fruitful one.

$3.8M Seed Funding Announcement

Okay, technically this was late 2019, but who’s counting!?

In late November 2019 we officially announced the closing of a successful seed round which would be used to propel our R&D, sales and marketing efforts, playing a key role in an aggressive global growth strategy to help companies accelerate digital transformation.

¨With the support of our investors, we can now ramp up our efforts in reaching as many clients as we can.Our immediate goal is to bring our tested, enterprise-ready technology to as many clients as we can,” explained CEO Danny Goh.

The funding round was led by a family office based in Geneva, Switzerland, followed by a number of private investors, which include Nick Fry, former CEO of Mercedes AMG Petronas F1, Jennifer Lewis, former Managing Director of GIC, Singapore Sovereign Wealth Fund, and Tom Yoritaka, former Managing Director of Cisco Global Ventures.

We Set Up Shop in Singapore

With help from said seed funding, we were able to set up office in one of the ASEAN’s most important technology and business hubs: Singapore.

Singapore-based Head of Growth Derrick Liao was quick to onboard a small but mighty team of business development specialists who have since created and nurtured important partnerships with government, corporations and universities in the bustling city-state.

Jennifer Lewis and David Hardoon, PhD, Join Advisory Board

Our extension into Singapore also helped in the onboarding of two of Nexus’s esteemed advisors: Jennifer Lewis and David Hardoon, PhD.

Jennifer, former Managing Director of Communications at GIC and current Head of Communication and Engagement at Temasek Foundation, plays an integral role in advising Nexus’s Marketing and Communictions team thanks to her years of experience and knowledge of Singapore’s key sectors.

David, former AI Advisor to MAS and current Senior Advisor for Data and Artificial Intelligence at the UnionBank of the Philippines, advises the management on high-growth critical organisational leadership and strategy, and has been guest speaker on a number of webinars and workshops.

We Partnered with Global Market Regulator ADGM To Automate Licence Application Process

In April 2020 we announced our collaboration with Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) to spearhead the use artificial intelligence to automate ADGM’s licence application process for Venture Capital (VC) fund managers.

The co-created “RegBot”, which utilises natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning, will drive greater business efficiency and compliance for stakeholders operating in one of the fastest-growing financial centres globally.

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with ADGM in the quest to streamline their licence application process and facilitate growth within the region,” commented Nexus CEO Danny Goh. “Our strength lies in developing cutting edge AI solutions for the financial services industry, so this is certainly a project that both ADGM and Nexus knows will be massively beneficial to all stakeholders involved.”

Nexus’s Head of Growth, Derrick Liao, also commented, “In the face of unprecedented change to the way services are being delivered, we are delighted to be part of ADGM’s journey to spur innovation and productivity in the UAE and the region.”

Nexus’s Launches AI-Enabled Business Workshop

In early September we launched our very own AI-Enabled Business workshop.

In our years of experience, we’ve seen that just about everyone knows what AI is and how powerful it can be in a business context. But we’ve identified one glaring problem: When it comes to actually making AI work at full scale, they hit a wall.

In this workshop, customised for both individuals and corporates, we share the method we use, the Data Harvesting Loop, to help our clients design their own AI roadmap & prioritise which business cases will provide the best ROI.

With two successful workshops under our belt, we’re excited to continue offering tailored training sessions to those interested in how leveraging AI to its fullest potential.

Nexus’s Launches AI Factory

In late November Nexus rolled out our latest product offering, AI Factory.

The Nexus AI Factory is a production programme that helps businesses construct AI solutions at speed and scale. This programme uses tried and tested processes, tools and expertise in a framework to identify specific opportunities and build valuable solutions.

Already being successfully used with our clients, we’ve decided to roll out the programme to help businesses who struggle with kickstarting AI projects.
